A lifelong fan of radio, Mark still remembers the ozone smell from his mother’s little Motorola portable transistor radio, and what a special treat it was to be able to take it to bed and listen to The Beatles’ early hits. Mark’s early life was enriched by the sounds of Midwestern radio giants WLS and WCFL in Chicago, and later KYA and KFRC in San Francisco – not to mention the pioneering “underground” FM sounds of KSAN in its glory years from 1968 to 1973. Thus it is with great pleasure he takes the helm of the Celtic Power Hour show. Featuring Celtic Rock and Roots, each week is a journey of discovery into classic and modern Celtic sounds, with a few surprises thrown in.

Mark doesn’t just play Celtic Rock on the radio; he also inflicts it on the public personally, in the highly successful progressive Celtic/Medieval rock band Avalon Rising, with whom he plays bass, mandocello, electric and acoustic guitars, and doumbek. They are currently in the 12th year of their Greater Bay Area Tour??, and are soon to have a prominent entry in the Guinnless Book of Knurled Placards. Check out their latest album, Storming Heaven.
